    Bone Healing Following Immediate Versus Delayed Placement of Titanium Implants into Extraction Sockets: A Prospective Clinical Study DOWNLOAD. Good sample size, larger sample size would be better. Good experimental protocol. Did not treat socket, only luxated as gently as possible. Current discussion: When is the best time for implant placement? There is a lot of initial resorption (first 3 months). Bottom line = remodeling occurs in the first three months.

    Immediate Functional Loading of Brånemark System Implants in Edentulous Mandibles:Clinical Report of the Results of Developmental and Simplified Protocols  DOWNLOAD. "Tooth in seven hours". Study followed 9 patients for 10 years. Immediate placement = 80% success for 5 years; 2-stage = 96% for 5 years. Both had 100% prosthetic success rate. Discusion: Implant location and which implants to load are important considerations in immediate loading. Immediate loading of single tooth implants or full arch implants is very predictable. Immediate loading of 3 or 4 implants, especially if in a straight line, is less predictable.

    Posterior Mandibular Residual Ridge Resorption in Patients with Conventional Dentures and Implant Overdentures   DOWNLOAD. Bottom line = it is beneficial to have implants. Study used 5 groups with large ridge size (unrealistic?), looked at bone resorption with different treatments. Significantly less resorption with implants. Length of time individual was edentulous did NOT affect future resorption. Dissatisfaction with lower full denture was NOT related to amount of resorption.

    Patient’s Informed Consent Prior to Implant-Prosthetic Treatment:A Retrospective Analysis of Expert Opinions  DOWNLOAD. This study was generated by the investigation of a dentist in Germany for poor dentistry. Bottom line:
        1. Try to improve communication with patient, communication is essential. Include realistic esthetic expectations in consent form.
        2. Implants are elective treatment, should follow OHI, decay removal, etc.

    Accuracy of Implant Placement with a Stereolithographic Surgical Guide DOWNLOAD. Study is an attempt to validate implant placement using a computer-generated stereolithographic model. Found greater than 1.5mm variation with traditional surgical guide. Stereolithographic guide had 3X better precision.

    Computer-assisted Implant Placement. A Case Report: Treatment of the Mandible  DOWNLOAD. French study based on a similar Belgian study. Probably the wave of the future.

    Bone Healing and Soft Tissue Contour Changes Following Single-Tooth Extraction: A Clinical and Radiographic 12-Month Prospective Study  DOWNLOAD. Rationale for delayed placement is to allow soft tissue closure of osteotomy. Bottom line = both single stage and 2-stage surgery work well; saw more bone growth in 3-wall defects with immediate placement. Dehiscence noted at time of extraction/immediate placement should be treated.

    Evaluation of the Precision of Fit Between the Procera Custom Abutment and Various Implant Systems  DOWNLOAD. Procera abutment is designed to work with Branemark implants. Procera will work with other systems, but must use Procera screw.

    Cement-Retained Versus Screw-Retained Implant Restorations: A Critical Review DOWNLOAD. Very vague. Paper favored cement-retained protocol.

    Root Resorption Associated with a Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft for Root Coverage: Clinical and Histologic Report of a Case DOWNLOAD. Iliac bone graft can resorb roots. Connective tissue graft can resorb roots as well . . . may be from periosteum or gingival connective along with graft. Resorption could be sufficient to cause tooth loss!

    Posterior Implants for Distal Extension Removable Prostheses: A Retrospective Study  DOWNLOAD. Implant provides a positive stop for distal free-end mandibular RPD. Helps prevent combination syndrome. Implant length used in study is not realistic (10-13mm).
